jwcurry's marathon-reading of bpNichol's MARTYROLOGY
[section #6: as if all weren't enough
over the weekend of september 29th, 30 &
this event is offered as a form of thanks to those who donate but will not necessarily be purchasers of the kitten cad oodle & will consist of a single-voice reading of all 9+ books of 'the martyrology.' so far as i'm aware, this will be the 1st time all its interconnectednesses'll be performed in some chronological proximity to themselves. according to my timings-out, this will approximately 15-hour reading/performance which
i've broken down into more manageable (for you, for me) chunks [6-acts], as
follows:
1. friday evening [doors open at
book 1 (35 min) [7-7:35], 2 (70 min) [8-9:10], 3 (85 min) [(part)#1,
(this promises to be a long/late night)
2. saturday afternoon [
[#1,
3. saturday night [
9-10:50 (WOW!!!); #3,
4. sunday morning service [@
this will be performed untimed, unrehearsed, untired, arriving out of the
void, as it will, and 'very' early) [john figures it's roughly 1-2hrs]
5. sunday afternoon [
[
6. sunday evening [
book 9
(45 min)
this series of events will occur in & around Majlis (King & Bathurst
area) [
light/TTC stop W. of Bathurst], the performance space donated for the project by
Trish Postle & Ed Fielding. Shanger Lattés will be avaliable to stay
caffeinated courtesy of Gio. Sampogna (it is rumoured that Shanger Pasta may be
provided as well) [it will folks, it's veggie shanger sauce, eh] but, in the
interests of personal preference & keeping costs as out of the picture
as possible, it is suggested that people come equipped with whatever kinds
of liquids, niblits & combustibles as would assure their interior comfort.
likewise, yr exteriors're to be considered: a comfortable mat, cushion
or portable bumrest of whatever type & a sweater, blanket or sleeping bag
to keep you toasty in'd be a good idea (some of the events may be
outdoors).
admission will be charged on a sliding scale geared to income: for the
poor, $5 per event [act] is recomended (but not mandatory). for those who can
afford to, paying what you 'can' is encouraged. for anyone having
trouble picking numbers, it's recomended to take yr cue from those
thing-a-thons we've all witnessed; for example, 10¢ per minute of reading would mean
about $100 if you want to take in all 6 events, $1 per minute'd be $45 if all
you wanted to hear was book 4. remember: this is not a competition, it's
composition; 'everything' counts. a form is appended to this for all
purposes: please act fast & get these back to me so i can structure the
weekend's parts accommodatingly for all. a programme will follow in the
week preceding.
it is respectfully requested that no elapsed-time recording devices of
any kind be used during any of the reading. still photography is welcomed -
even encouraged - with the proviso that i receive prints (or, less
preferable, digital files on dvd) of all shots attempted &/or achieved. it is also
respectfully requested that attendees cut some slack for Gio, who will
be operating a [still] camera on my behalf under instruction as
documenteur.
[I've had this 14-yr arguement with jwc over this, and he still refuses
to let me film/videotape any of his readings - it drives me crazy!!!]
Room 302 Books will have some of bp's publications for sale at these
events.
