eye weekly is a free newspaper here in toronto and has started recently publishing poems. the first i saw was back in april – and was a poem by Stephen Cain – from his new book at Coach House Books (not press as the “press” has been dead for years) called American Standard. here is the poem–

not a bad thing to find in a weekly entertainment magazine - so that was kinda neat- there was one other poem i saw – but it sucked and i can’t remember who it was by so i can’t find it on the eye page- but this weeks issue has this poem by the idiot Brian Joseph Davis – here it is

i hate shit like this – cute funny poems with stupid douglas copland type pop references in them. this kinda shit seems to be on the increase in here in the writing scene i sometimes take part in – i saw this fool read at a Lex – back in October 2004- and i really hated his reading – i’m sure that lots and lots of people are going to see this poem and just love it then they will go on and buy an album by the kaiser lights or the razor chiefs or who knows…..i’m sure that Brian Joseph Davis (who also writes for the eye weekly) will have a nice new idiot proof book of “poems/short fictions” out next year from somewhere
